Rare Breed of Dog - the 'Palicki Hound'

The following is copy of an e-mail message (exactly as received, March 2000) by a visitor to this web site: (Identity of sender shall remain unknown)

Quote:

"Dear (Mr.) Palicki

I read with interest your policy statements on the web.

This question isn't really related to politics, however - and it may seem a bit odd to you.

I wonder if you know the origins of your surname, Palicki ? The reason I ask is that I'm the proud owner of a rare Palicki Hound - a chocolate brown dog, about the size of a Weimaraner.

Palickis were originally bred in Poland, during World War II. Apparently, a Jewish dog-breeder residing in Warsaw crossed a Bloodhound with a Doberman and this resulted in the Palicki Hound.

Anyway, Mr. Schneiderman (the breeder) quickly realized the animal's sensitivity and tracking skills. He set up a vigorous training program and eventually taught his dogs to accurately sniff out Nazis, during Poland's occupation by Germany. Isn't that fascinating?

Sniffing out Nazis is what Palicki Hounds did best, and it is a proud historical part of their ancestry.

This is why I am inquiring about your surname and its particular historical origins.

Thank you, and best of luck in the elections.

A Palicki fan"

The Bernard Palicki response is repeated, as follows:

"If I were a dog, would very much like to be one of this special breed. ...he sounds so good, maybe I should claim and declare relation as a distant cousin.

Am really excited to hear about the 'Palicki Hound' and the story behind it. Believe every word of it. I love dogs - would have one if I had a place large enough, where it could roam free. Can't abide the idea of leashes or pens - for dogs or people (that's the bottom line reason of reason for becoming an Independent Candidate for Pres in the Year 2000 General Election)."

NOTE: TERMINATION OF CANDIDACY WAS ACCEPTED BY U.S. FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION LETTER DATED FEBRUARY 16, 2001. END NOTE.
