THE NEW POP
There are only two types of musicians. Real ones and the toy ones.
The question has to be asked, if you are in this industry just to make money
and strutt your stuff in front of an admiring, if musically uneducated
audience. (In which case you will probably be reading this page because you
have a narrow understanding of what it takes to be consistently original and
don't want whatever little is available to you to get ripped off by common
sense.) Or whether you are "in it" because you really love the whole
challenge of music along with all the discipline needed to play your
instrument to the fullness of it's potential. In which case you will already
have realised that as it stands, the music industry has but little to do
with either the history nor the creation of music. Why do you play music?
Three Chord Heaven : A young goons image eclectic?
Since around 1958, pop music has been almost
exclusively based upon folk / church changes, it uses only two of these
scales, yet its more creative aspects are always
seeking new sounds which, strangely enough
are not hidden in history, or by tuning up the
volume but exist within easy reach.
Approaching the 21st Century, arrogance, ignorance
and prejuduce are the only things
holding back both pop music and pop musicians from
a new and more exciting dimension.
